More and more fire authorities throughout the country are becoming more confident in issuing prosecution notices and finding themselves succesful in the courts.
One of the latest prosecutions involved a public House in Cheltenham where the landlord was found guilty of several breaches of fire safety legislation ie locked fire exits, blocked exit routes and wedged open fire doors (who's not been there?) during refurbishment of the premise.
Although the offences were commited by the conrtactor, the landlord, the 'responsible person' was the guilty party and pleaded guilty to 4 offences with £5000 fine for each one. This was reduced to £15000 fine due to guilty plea.
